Sustainable Seas: The Marine Institute celebrates Science Week 2025 with a focus on sustainable marine resource management

Ireland's transformation from a small-scale fishing nation to a sustainable seafood exporter has been built on collaboration between fisheries and scientists, between traditional knowledge and modern methods, between communities and conservation.

JPI Oceans Joint Call on Blue Carbon Ecosystems 2025

The Marine Institute is delighted to support the newly launched JPI Oceans Joint Call on Blue Carbon Ecosystems with a deadline for proposal submissions on 2 March 2026. This call pools national and regional financial resources totaling €5.3 million through the participation of funding organisations from seven countries (Ireland, Canada, Germany, Malta, Norway and Poland, with Greece providing an in-kind contribution through access to the Seagrass Ecology Laboratory of the Institute of Oceanography).

The Marine Institute and the Explorers Education Programme will showcase marine science at the 2025 Galway Science and Technology Festival. Families are invited to the Bailey Allen Hall at the University of Galway on Sunday 9th November from 10am to 5pm to learn more about phytoplankton species.
