Our Shared Ocean Master’s Degree Scholarships 2025

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), through Ireland’s development cooperation programme, Irish Aid, and the Marine Institute (MI) have established ‘Our Shared Ocean’ to support research, knowledge exchange and capacity building in partnership with Small Island Developing States (SIDS). The programme runs from January 2022 to December 2026 with a total investment of €3.8 million funded by the DFA, and administered by the MI.

(Note: Support under this call is primarily aimed towards the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the Caribbean, Pacific and AIMS (Africa, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean and South China Sea).
JPI Oceans Joint Call: Science for Good Environmental Status (S4GES)
The Marine Institute is delighted to support the newly launched JPI Oceans Joint Call: on Science for Good Environmental Status (S4GES) with a deadline for proposal submissions on 1 April 2025. This call pools national and regional financial resources totalling €950,000 through the participation of funding organisations from four countries (Belgium, Ireland, Italy and Malta). Italy is also providing access to their research vessels in 2026. The Marine Institute is the national funder for Ireland under this call with a commitment of €300,000.
