The Marine Institute provides advisory services to Government through participation in a number of licencing comittees and working groups on foreshore licencing, aquaculture licencing, dumping at sea, offshore oil and gas activity and the implementation of the Water Framework Directive.
The Marine Institute chairs and provides technical staff to the Marine Licence Vetting Committee (MLVC ) of the Department of Communications Marine and Natural Resources which deals with foreshore licencing and disposal of dredge material ar sea.
The Marine Institute plays a role in the regulation and licencing of marine and freshwater aquaculture through participation on the Aquaculture Licence Advisory Committee.
We provide technical advice to the Petroleum Affairs Division of the Department of Communications Marine and Natural Resources on the environmental impact of offshore oil and gas activity.
Marine Institute staff are also involved in a number of working groups and advisory committees on the Water Framework Directive.
